In 2013, Ian Walker and I established Lantern Advisory to "deliver holistic and independent advice to create and protect the wealth of our clients". However, our mission has always been much deeper than this statement.

We focus our knowledge and skills on developing an overarching strategy to ensure all our clients' unique facets are understood before providing considered and measurable advice. Our key services are fundamental financial planning (using cash flows and objectives), debt management, investment advice, estate planning, superannuation and pensions, risk protection, structuring, taxation and finance services. Our approach is backed by experience, qualifications, accountability and an industry-leading review service.

You may have seen in the press that the financial planning sector is undergoing a Royal Commission. We support this review whole-heartedly.

We advocate for independent financial advice aligned to the specific needs of each client and an industry where financial planners work in the best interests of their clients rather than being "product sellers".

Our best-practice standards

As a firm that is unwavering in our commitment to deliver holistic and independent financial advice, we stand by the following best-practice standards:

  • We develop plans with clients as early as possible to identify opportunities and strategies so that every earned dollar is directed toward achieving set goals
  • We discuss the sale and investment of financial assets to ensure tax is minimised
  • We help to establish investment bonds for our clients' children or grandchildren for long term prosperity
  • We believe in retirement preparedness. We assist superannuation members and trustees of SMSFs to make good decisions and be aware of requirements and risks
  • We understand that debt can be an inhibitor towards creating wealth and ought to be repaid by retirement. We review and develop projections based on cash flows and conservative assumptions to strive towards an acceptable outcome and review this each year for progress
  • We strive for our clients' financial wellbeing. A budget is a cornerstone of our initial financial planning process allowing mapping of future outcomes
  • Many of our business owner clients (like us) retain a lot of their wealth in their business, thus requiring asset protection and business consultation
  • For some clients, we manage all of their financial interests while they are busy raising children and growing their wealth, giving them added peace of mind
  • We support the view that our clients have control over their financial future. As holistic advisers we understand there are many needs and styles, and we are happy to be the coach or counsel as needed
  • In our review service, we educate and empower our clients to engage with their finances and see actual and prospective outcomes
  • And of course, we preserve wealth and focus on income for our retiree clients who have less tolerance for risk
